Sport plays a positive role in a child’s development from physical fitness through to academic performance. At Gosport Martial Arts we have developed our kids martial arts classes to be fun, positive & safe. Our classes will help to foster:

– A positive attitude towards fitness, health & exercise.

– Social skills & friendships building.

– Self-confidence.

SPORT SHOULD BE FUN – IT IS THAT SIMPLE

Part of developing a positive view of exercise is making the experience fun and engaging. Our kids martial arts classes encourage enjoyment through variety in tasks and goals, positive reinforcement during learning and by creating a socially fun environment in which your child can learn martial arts and make friends.

The focus for each class is on personal development, helping your child develop their fitness, co-ordination and decision making skills through varied and engaging exercise drills from pad work through to attack and defensive drills. 

WHAT WE DO DURING EACH KIDS MARTIAL ARTS CLASS

Our little dragon class (for ages 3 to 6) lasts 45 minutes and our Kids Martial Arts class (for ages 7 to 12) last 60 minutes.

Our focus is on encouragement during classes with achievement being assessed through participation in the class, not on individual successes. Each class starts with a group warm-up of light exercise and stretching. We then focus on aerobic fitness drills, co-ordination drills, attack & defensive drills and paired pad drills. For our Little Dragons classes we encourage parents to participate during lessons.

All techniques and drills are taught using different types of safety pads and training aids. Appropriate safety equipment is used for all our younger students.

THE LONG TERM BENEFITS OF SPORT

Every type of sport, if taught correctly, will have positive long term benefits for your child. Recorded long term benefits include:

– higher grades, expectations, and attainment.
– improved personal confidence and self-esteem.
– greater connections with school
– support from adults.
– stronger peer relationships.
– more academically oriented friends.
– greater family attachment and more frequent interactions with parents.
– more restraint in avoiding risky behaviour.
– greater involvement in volunteer work.

The Hyper Bully Defence movement was created to inspire both youth & teens to end bullying in their life and community. It is this core belief that we follow during our classes.

Our classes provide:

A safe environment to help children work through any frustration they might be experiencing

Help our young students become aware of what bullying is

How to deal with it if it occurs

Who to talk to and how to help others who might be experiencing it

Many adult students join our classes as a result of bullying that they have experienced when they were children and the effects it has had on their life. We have helped many people over come these experiences that they shouldn’t have had to deal with in the first place. One of our core beliefs as a gym is teaching our young students the relevant correct skills to deal with, identify and to help those who are being both bullied and are the bully is a crucial life skill.
